Rita Callan of 45 Sherry Avenue Bristol joined 81 other musicians in Smith College Summer School of Music concerts at Sage Hall Northampton Massachusetts. She sang alto in the Summer School Chorus performing Bach King of Heaven Come in Triumph under Victor Prahl. The program featured four orchestral works conducted by Gilbert Ross. In 98 degree heat a parade through the town and a field contest at Guiteras School drew thirteen drum and bugle corps. George Moore Girls Drum and Bugle Corps of Westerly won top honors with 2029 points and took best playing and baton awards. Rockdale Drum and Bugle Corps of Northbridge won seniors while Warren Safety Patrol claimed junior and senior standings. About 800 spectators witnessed the events, with Bristol hosts barred from competition but demonstrating twirling and baton skills.
