Residents Oppose Beach Use at Rhode Island Soldiers Home
Two protests emerged this week against leasing waterfront land at the Rhode Island Soldiers Home for a public beach. Anthony C. Almeida Post No 237 VFW opposes any town use of the property, and Commander Chester W Williams warns the home management’s objections to such development. The shorefront is currently leased to the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America through a five year term ending in 1952. A July Planning Board proposal urged the Town Council to study leasing the waterfront from the state for beach purposes.
