Better English Courses Again Before Committee

The school committee heard a second request to strengthen English and public speaking in the high school curriculum. The proposal stems from a 1952 alumni survey urging improved grammar, composition and creative expression, with 96 percent calling for a public speaking course. DeLeo to Present Eisenhower With Gold Key Tag

DeLeo former National Commander of the Italian American World War Veterans and new National President of the Italo American Disabled Veteran Foundation will present President Eisenhower a gold identification key tag at the White House tomorrow. The visit follows Eisenhower's courtesy award to DeLeo for 1952. DeLeo then travels to New Britain Connecticut for the 18th Annual State Department Convention of the Italo American World War Veterans.

Well Known Hog Island Race Winner Missing in Action

Pvt. Bernard Almeida 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Almeida of 568 Wood St, reported missing in Korea. He won the Hog Island Race in 1949 1950 and 1952 with a 34 minute record, starred in basketball, and was a Bristol High graduate class 1950. He taught lifeguarding before joining the Army November 10, 1952.

Boys Catch Immature Night Heron and Release It Nearby

Joseph Coelho and Raymond Soucy found a tall dark brown bird with a sharp beak near a reservoir. After confirming it was an immature night heron, they kept it in a wire netting cage and released it on Colt Drive near Surprise Hill to help it find a habitat.
