Bristol considers WPA plan for waterfront beaches

Bristol faces a funding hurdle as the Works Progress Administration plan requires the town to cover 25 percent of project costs, potentially delaying redevelopment of Colt Drive beach and several other waterfront sites. Relief officials plan to use SUR supervision and life-saving squads to improve safety at Valley and Union streets and coordinate with the Bristol Safety Council and local fire companies.

Celebration Group To Meet Thursday Night

Bristol Yacht Club Opens Modern Clubhouse After Hurricane

The Bristol Yacht Club unveiled a new clubhouse replacing the previous structure washed away by last September’s hurricane. Architect Norman F. Herreshoff earned praise for a modern design with large harbor views from a half hexagon main lounge and an upper deck resembling a ship’s vantage. A new pier and lighting system impressed visitors during a tea and dance, with out of town boat owners expected to join as members.

The seventh annual Girl Scout Mariners Dance will be held Friday evening at the Bristol Yacht Club with Carl Tate's orchestra to ensure first rate music despite extra expense. Tickets are selling quickly and the event will feature features such as a balloon dance a Cinderella dance and a prize waltz. Bristol District Nursing Association Seeks 1500 Dollar Appeal

The Bristol District Nursing Association mailed letters to residents and organizations to raise 1500 dollars needed to fund nursing services for the coming year. Miss John A Herreshoff leads the campaign as the association notes most patients pay little or nothing for care and that town funding covers 2000 dollars with 1500 remaining.

Young Men's Club Plans Bazaar At St Marys Church

Probation Officer Augustine B Nerone is chairman of the bazaar booth committee. The bazaar will be held July 26 to 29 in the St Marys Church auditorium with parishioners staging the event. Regular novena devotions are at 7 15 tonight at the parish.

Kansas Girls State forms for citizenship training

The Kansas American Legion Auxiliary started Girls State, patterned after Boys State, sending about 150 high school girls to an eight day citizenship program. They elected city county and state officials, formed two parties, studied current issues, and urged continuation of the National Youth Administration in schools. In Warwick Neck, Rhode Island, a colony of six escaped monkeys adapts to cold winters, resisting capture and living freely near a Warwick Neck resident who feeds them. One monkey died. two babies joined the group. The animals shelter in boxes and a winter house, with daily visits from a baker's route driver who feeds them loafs of stale bread.
