Reynolds House in Bristol Plays Role in Revolution

The Reynolds house, a prominent colonial structure with a long sloping roof, built by Joseph Reynolds, withstood a 1778 raid by British and Hessian forces. Reynolds, sick at the time, was taken to Newport as a prisoner but soon returned. Lafayette used the Bristol headquarters later that year, and Mrs. Reynolds discovered his identity only when Lafayette arrived demanding formal entrance. The house remains standing along the Warren to Bristol road.
