The Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps won two first prizes at a carnival parade opening by St Cecilia's Church in Pawtucket. Drum Major Norman Rene earned a gold medal for best all around major in line. Rene and the drum section each had perfect scores. The corps performed again at the fair and will practice Wednesday at 6 45 PM at the Scout Hall for a competition in Northbridge, Massachusetts next Sunday.

Defense training classes replace night school in Bristol
The Bristol School Department plans to drop evening sessions this fall and winter and substitute defense training classes. Superintendent Elmer S. Mapes reported an eight week course at Andrews school with 34 in machine shop and 20 in blueprint reading. Most enrollees work at United States Rubber and Collins and Aikman plants.
