Mary Laurie Campagna of 24 Burton St Bristol, a member of Troop 142 Mt Hope Council, will end a ten day Roundup by returning home Thursday. She was chosen by merit and will be the lone Bristol scout at the campsite where girls aged 14 to 17 study nature geology astronomy and weather.
A Fall River man Manuel Coelho 39 died when his car ran a stop sign on Metacom Ave and was struck nearly broadside by a trailer truck driven by William Bone 22 of Bellport N Y. The truck mounted the car and stopped about 100 feet away. Three passengers Mary Lenay 33 Frederick 16 and David Finn 14 were hospitalized in good condition. Rescue squads used heavy equipment to free the body. Bone was arraigned on reckless driving death resulting with bail set at 2000 and trial continued to July 27.
A. A. Edmonds received an autographed copy of The Seven Paths To Peace at a Bristol Rotary Club meeting. Howard R Newman presented the book as a personal gift honoring Edmonds long service as chairman of the International Service committee. The book bears signatures from Rotary International’s recently retired president Clifford Randall.
Thirty seven members and seven guests of the Bristol Garden Club toured the Jones Rose Gardens in Barrington last Wednesday afternoon. They returned to Mrs. Robert Rulon-Miller's home for a brief business meeting where Mrs. A Sid ney DeW. Herreshoff reported progress on the litterbug campaign and Miss Agnes read a horticulture paper. Punch was served by Mrs. Miller after the meeting.
Thomas Goglia of 193 State St quickly responded to a blazing outboard craft on Bristol Harbor. He rescued three men, towed the burning boat toward the Coast Guard dock, and witnessed a gas tank explosion as the vessel was reached. Coast Guard Chief Roman Kreher commended his swift action.
