Chas. O. Cook Jr Retires From Active Navy Duty

Charles Cook Jr born in Chicago in 1911 is home in Bustul with family as Newport Naval Base marks his retirement from active duty. A June 30 reception at the Club Newport celebrated a long career begun after graduating from the Naval Academy Class of 1931. He served seven years aboard destroyers, battleships and auxiliaries and later held staff roles at the base.

Bristol Colony Dinner Celebrates Five Victims Families

The Bristol Colony at Prudence Island hosted a surprise kitchen shower for the Mosher and Phillips families after a fire damaged their cottage. Nearly fifty adults and 37 children attended, sharing gifts as neighbors praised reconstruction efforts by Carl Beck and others. The event marks a hopeful community gathering and support for the island’s next generation.

Class of 1941 Holds Twentieth Reunion at Elks Home

The Colt Memorial High School Class of 1941 held its twentieth reunion Saturday night at the Elks Home. About 70 members attended. Prizes were awarded for longest distance, most children, and other categories. A buffet and dancing followed an ornate hor d oeuvres table donated by Mrs Evelyn Brito Cataldo.

Three Young Men Held in Lieu of Bail

Three youths charged with multiple burglaries in Bristol and Warren remain in custody at Howard Correctional. Bail set for John LaChapelle 6500, Robert P Parent 6000, and Dion James Perron 2500. All cases continued to July 20 in Warren district court. Parent has pleaded guilty to larceny and faces sentence then.

Bristol Playground Closures Set For Noon to 1 Daily

Bristol will close all playgrounds from 12 to 1 p.m. every day through the summer, recreation director Anthony Agatiello stated. He cited few children at noon and noted no instructors are warranted during that hour.

Fourth of July Parade Committee Final Meeting Notes

The Fourth of July Committee held its final meeting until September at the YMCA and heard reports from special members. The event was deemed financially successful by chairman Ralph G Lavers and letters of thanks were approved for all who contributed to the parade. A note from Commander G G Bennett of the Cruiser Newport News thanked Bristolians for the warm welcome to midshipmen. A forthcoming financial statement will be announced later, per recording secretary Dorothy Saucier. Special thanks were given to the Congressional Delegation Town Council Marshal Clin ton Pearson and naval commanders along with the Veterans Council.

Bike Rodeo Set For Tomorrow At Town Common

The Board of Recreation sponsors a Bike Rodeo at 2 p.m. on the Town Common for boys and girls of all ages. Other parks close during the event. It includes balance on a 32 ft plank, obstacle weave, and a race around the Common. Winners receive prizes.
