An Oration on Anglo-Saxon Heritage and Imperial Duties
Henry W. Hayes of Bristol delivers a July 4 1899 oration in the Opera House arguing that the United States and England share a common Anglo-Saxon heritage, guiding liberty and expansion. He urges continued possession of acquired territories, cites Dewey and Sampson, defends imperial duties, and emphasizes a mutual language, laws, and destiny shaping a united English speaking world.
