Death of Mrs Wilcox after Fourth of July firework
The Bristol community mourns Mrs Seraphine Diman Wilcox wife of Captain David S Wilcox born 1820 Bristol and Bristols citizen. She was fatally burned when her clothing caught fire from a discharged firecracker as she walked home on Burton street near High street. Neighbors and bystanders including Mrs Henry Slocum Charles A Waldron and Clinton Sherman aided with rugs and water but she died after midnight. Funeral services planned from her late residence with Rev Locke officiating. Captain Wilcox and daughter Mrs Frank J Bowen survive.

Emanon Whist Club Lawn Party At Mr Darling’s Grounds
Members and guests of the Emanon Whist Club enjoyed a Fourth of July lawn party at William Darling’s Union street grounds. Twenty five couples attended a bountiful 7 o'clock luncheon, with dancing, merry games, and Copeland's orchestra from Providence providing music. The club plans to repay the Darling family’s kindness before the whist season resumes.

Renick Hamilton Self Cures With Arnica Salve Claim
A West Jefferson man named Renick Hamilton reportedly suffered a rectal fistula for months and was told by doctors he would die without costly surgery. He allegedly cured himself using Bucklen's Arnica Salve, advertised as a sure pile cure, sold by J H Young & Co for 25 cents a box.
