Fourth of July Celebration in Bristol Ends Quietly
Bristol marked Independence Day with a multi hour celebration from the afternoon of July 3 to midnight. crowds packed Hope street, a noisy display of explosives and horns contrasted with a concert by the Herreshoff band. A huge bonfire on the Common lit the night air as booths and merry go rounds thrived. The parade formed at 9:45 am with multiple divisions and escorts from local and visiting units. Salutes, church bells, and chimes accompanied the day’s events. The procession moved through state streets ending at AR Hall for declarations, prayers, and music. Concerts followed on the Common by Second Regiment Band then Warren’s National Band.

Fireworks display and July Fourth program on the Common
In damp evening air about 4000 people gathered on the Common to see a fireworks display and hear the Second Regiment Band perform a long program including overtures from Verdi and Strauss. The event featured readings by Miss Bunn and an oration by Mr. Leahy, praised by Chairman Warren for his Georgetown Law education, and noted concerns about political corruption today.
