Bristol marks 61st Independence Day with three day celebration

About 90 000 people watched Bristol New England's festivity as the town closed a three day Fourth of July program highlighted by a large Commonwealth fireworks display. Police reported two minor auto incidents and no major disturbances. The parade featured 11 divisions with military units, sailors from Newport, a national guard contingent, Boy and Sea Scouts, Portuguese American groups and many local clubs led by Col Merton A Cheesman.

Malafronte denies driving to endanger in fatal crash

Owney Malafronte aged 23 pleaded not guilty in Fifth District Court to driving to endanger life after his car struck and killed Mrs Mars Mendes Duarte 53 on Wood Street. The case was continued for trial with $2000 bail. Funeral services for Mrs Duarte were held at St Elizabeths Church.

Bristol Colt Alumni Plan August Dance for Fund Drive

The Bristol Colt Alumni Association fixed August 6 for a dance at Colt High auditorium to support senior high athletics. Two Accidents Mar Clean Bristol Holiday Record

Dr John Castronove director of the southeastern district health unit will give vaccinations to local children entering school this fall. Clinics are scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday mornings at 9 o clock.
