Fourth of July injuries cited in Narrows incident list
Chester Carpenter of Bristol Narrows suffered severe head and shoulder burns when a cannon backfired and was treated by Dr. Samuel D. Clark before returning home. Others include Frank Dimond, 13, with firecracker burns in Providence, Joseph Franco, 30, potentially losing sight of his left eye, and Mary Daley, 10, struck by a firecracker during the parade. Multiple children and residents received treatment from Dr. D'Angelo, Dr. Bruno, and Dr. Serbst for facial, hand, and leg burns.

Club Plans Annual Outing With Portuguese Folk Groups
The Portuguese Independent Club and Band will host its annual outing on Sunday July 14 at DeWolf Farm Woodlawn avenue. Two groups Ramboia Ma deirense Fall River and Ro maria Das Camachas New Bedford will perform with a children’s choir and the Independent Band. A song contest between Jose Furtado Limas and Antonio Souza and general dancing follow the concert.

Martin Hall Opens Summer Clinic
Dr. Frederick V. Martin announced that Martin Hall, the school of speech correction, will open its summer clinic at 10 oclock Monday morning with elaborate opening day ceremonies. Seventy cases including many college men and women are enrolled. Fourteen Rhode Island school teachers will study normal courses during the clinic.
Bristol Follows Tradition Despite Adverse Weather
Bristol marked Independence Day with a two day program despite rain threats. A 40 000 strong crowd watched a waterfront parade led by US Cavalry Reserves and armed forces, plus a bugle corps competition postponed by weather. The procession featured sailors from the US Humphries and R-4, Bristol units, civic groups and scouts, with a noon review near Reynolds School and a later baseball game in the Bristol Twilight League.

Kennel Club Show Draws Over 300 Entries
The Providence County Kennel Club reports more than 300 entries for its annual sanctioned show at Martin Hall on Sunday afternoon. Champions are expected to compete and an obedient training exhibition by Roger Williams Park trained dogs is planned starting 1 30. Proceeds benefit the Martin Hall scholarship fund aiding speech correction cases.

Water Company offers kiddies open-air showers in Bristol
Bristol town council and the Bristol County Water Company plan three one hour shower sessions weekly using hydrants to provide spray for children. A supervisor will oversee operations and streets will be blocked to traffic. The program starts next week with days to be announced. Warren has already accepted the offer and Barrington may follow.
