Town Council Plans Channel to Admit Coal Barges

A special town council meeting approved funding to cut and maintain an ice channel in Bristol harbor to admit coal barges. The town and several companies share costs, with Capt Crandall volunteering to keep the channel clear. work includes enlarging a channel from the Herreshoff dock and aiding the Sagamore and other vessels as the season demands.

Providence women canvass for federal prohibition petition

A dozen well known women led by Mrs James W Algeo conducted a house to house canvass in Bristol on a Saturday to secure signatures for a petition urging Rhode Island General Assembly members to ratify the Federal Prohibition Amendment. The petition stresses mothers wives and sisters voting age and calls prohibition the liquor traffic foe to democracy.

Captain Richmond Pearson Hobson of Alabama will deliver an address at St Michael's Church next Sunday morning on the subject of National Prohibition.

Miss Helen E. Munro entertained Dorcas Ruth and Mizpah Rebekah Lodge officers at her Bradford street home for her birthday anniversary. Present were Grand Warden Mrs. Martha Cahoon Grand Secretary Miss Annie Faulkner Grand Treasurer Mrs. Roselma Bowen Grand Herald Mrs. Josephine Moffat Grand Marshal Mrs. Lois Martin Grand Inner Guard Mrs. Florence Potter and Pianist Mrs. Mary Grabert. A fine supper followed by social time. Each guest received a Rebekah gold pin. Mrs. Bowen presented a gold bracelet to Miss Munro and Mrs. Cora Aldrich presented a bound book of poems to the hostess.

War Work of Church At St Michael’s Draws Large Crowd

A Sunday service at St. Michael’s Church focused on war work with Rev. A B Howard delivering a thoughtful sermon. The collection reached 1007 dollars, exceeding the church quota of 604 dollars, and included a memorial to William Hirst Kearney of the U S Navy torpedoed when the Jacob Jones sank.

Service for Benediction Honors Trinity Honor Roll

A large congregation attended a Sunday benediction at Trinity Church for the 28 members of Trinity Parish serving in the National Service. St. Stephen's Providence rector Rev. F. Wansison led the service and delivered an address as hymns including Onward Christian Soldiers and Battle Hymn of the Republic were sung.

Pleasantly Entertained by Altar Society at Mt. Carmel

A Saturday evening gathering of the Altar Society of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church was held at A. Maturi's home 71 Constitution Street with 20 members present. Members sang solos and a duet before dining then enjoyed dancing after refreshments.
