Shipping Channel Opens as Ice Cleared by Town Effort

Harbor Master Samuel C. Wardwell led a large crew to cut a channel through thick ice from State street to the ferry area. The steamer Sagamore and a government tow boat hauled large ice cakes to open water, enabling coal delivery to Newport and Bristol. To hear Capt. Richmond P. Hobson speak on prohibition at St Michael's on Sunday the Congregational Church will cancel its morning service. Sunday School will meet at noon, and a union evening service at 7 30 will be held at the Pentecostal Church with four churches sharing in the pact.
