Colt Seniors Present Operetta Two Evenings This Week

Colt Memorial High School senior class presents the two act operetta Up In The Air directed by M Theresa Donovan with Beatrice Friedman and John Hambrook in leading roles. The show features a Hollywood aviation plot with a movie star magnate and a parachute stunt, sung by the school orchestra and danced by Kathleen and Joseph Brito during intermission. Performances are Thursday and Friday evenings with a full cast including Elizabeth Gifford, Francis Perry, Robert Bullock and others.

Girl Scout Mariner Ship Welcomes Eight-Year Veteran Crew

Six girls will join the Vigilant Mariner Ship during investiture at the Girl Scout House on High Street led by Mrs. Harold C. Peckham with Miss Claire Richards and Miss Jessie Sanford as officers. The ship marks eight years since its launch by Mrs. Sidney Herreshoff to teach boating and nautical skills to older scouts.

Plans Completed For Mass Meeting On Defense Savings Bonds

Plans are nearly finished for a mass meeting on Defense Savings Bonds set for Monday evening at John Post Reynolds School. Bristol Savings Staff members including E. S. Mapes and Daniel W. Coggeshall will run the program with James J. Velleca and Michael W. Pasquarelli among organizers. Henry R. Sullivan will be the principal speaker, with another prominent State speaker to discuss Air Raids. A question and answer period will follow the speaking program and attendance is urged during these trying times.

Franklin H Springer formerly of this town sails Friday to a Maryland camp as Lieut Col in the Chemical Warfare Division of the U S Infantry. A 1914 Colt Memorial High School graduate, he later attended R I State College and served in France in World War I before joining Davos Rubber as assistant head chemist. He is husband to Clinton T Sherman’s daughter. his son Clinton graduates this month from Classical High School Providence and plans Brown University next week.
