Bristol Red Cross unit organized for seventh and eighth graders

Bristol’s first junior Red Cross unit organized with 26 girls from St Mary’s Parochial School set to take sewing and knitting classes on Wednesdays under Mrs Frederick Serbst and Mrs William Serbst. Activities aim to supply items to Bristol Red Cross and involve public school children in defense savings through stamps and bonds in coordination with local principals and a dedicated committee.

Sullivan to Speak at Mass Meeting Monday

Henry R. Sullivan deputy administrator of the State Defense Savings staff will speak at a mass meeting Monday night at Colt Memorial high school auditorium. Town Councilman Michael W Pasquarelli chairs the event which promotes saving by children and is open to all.

Tire Board Grants Two Permits

Bristol district hearing last night approved permits to purchase a tire and a tube. Dr Frederick V. Martin, director of Martin Hall, and Peter Goglia, owner of a Wood Street grocery, were named by Rationing Administration Board No 1. Elmer Angell announced the decisions.

Local Navy Recruits George H Murray Jr Reported Safe

George H. Murray Jr has been located at Naval Air Station Jacksonville Florida after enlisting in December at Newport Naval Training Station. He completed the Radio Aviation test and is a member of Colt Memorial High School class of 1940.

Board seeks volunteers to aid in registration

The Ideal draft board calls for volunteers to help register men aged 20 to 45 for selective service on February 16. Registrations will occur from 7 am to 9 pm at the Reynolds school auditorium in Bristol, with about 900 expected. Volunteers may leave names with James A. Ruggiero, W. Fred Williams Jr., or Town Clerk John W. Church.

Kearney Ship Holds Informal Sea Scouts Session

Kearney Ship of Sea Scouts held an informal meeting at Commissioner O Reid Le Clair’s home. First Mate Felix Scott and Coxswain Edward Arruda led marlinspike seamanship and rigging, with two lifeline reels and torpedo buoys added. Joseph Formisano was proposed for membership and a Legion Hall meeting set for January 29 followed by committee assignments. An annual inspection by the Council of Sea Scouts and Commodore La Verne A Matthews is planned for February 12.

Senior Class Operetta Set To Open Next Week At Colt High

The Colt Memorial high school senior class presents Up in Their Landing next Thursday and Friday in the Colt auditorium with tickets selling fast. Beatrice Friedman and John Hambrook lead the cast in a two act operetta about Hollywood aviation and a daughter of a big business man.
