The Fnternal Order of Eagles will honor an outstanding citizen with an award at its annual banquet at GAR Hall Saturday Feb 24 at 7 30 p m The oldest active worthy past president and the latest worthy past president will also be honored with a plan to extend honors to retiring presidents until all have received them
Pryvete John DeWitt Sylvester of 33 Elizabeth Street, son of Mr and Mrs Harold Sylvester, awarded the Bronze Star for exposing himself to heavy enemy fire to evacuate wounded and resupply his unit near Taegu Korea on September 3 1950 while with the First Cavalry Division. He was wounded and evacuated to Japan later.
Boys aged 8 to 12 are being assigned to age based tryout groups under Vincent J Santo chairman of Procurement of Managers and Players assisted by Anthony Agatiello and John Borges. Applications are at the Phoenix office with parental approval required.
The Bristol Bugle and Drum Corps known as Kearney Post No 6 American Legion Junior Corps receives a Sunday testimonial banquet at 4 PM at Midway Steak and Lobster House. The Corps of Champs is recognized for a 1950 season with Rhode Island junior title wins and multiple championships in Eastern States and out of state events, plus numerous first prizes in RI Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Lt Frank B Correia U S Navy completes nearly seven years at sea then reports for a two year shore duty research project in Albuquerque New Mexico after 30 day leave. A U S Naval Academy graduate 1944 he served on submarines Kingfish U 231 and Spikefish and accompanied President Truman off Key West. His wife and two sons will join him in the spring.
The Bristol County PTA meeting will be held at Peck High School auditorium at 8 p.m. Thursday February 1 with Mrs J S Coles urging all members to attend. Dr Charles Farrell of Pawtucket and Dr James Howard Means of Boston will speak on Your Health Under Compulsory or Voluntary Insurance each allotted 20 minutes with written questions only.
Rev Samuel Livingstone told the Rotary Club that Britain's socialist policies harm the nation overall though help a small poor class. He cited medical delays and strained services in England, criticizing nationalized medicine and wealth redistribution as failed. He framed the issue as Christianity versus communism.
Miranda will remain with the Republican town committee and back Manuel Cardoza in the primaries for second councilman against John Marshall. Cardoza cites party strife after the committee split over endorsements and vows to continue the fight in the primary.

They note raw sludge on beds and drying problems, estimate Washington Street upgrades at up to 150000, and plan to review Fay Spofford and Thorndike plans before bids.
