Charles Evans of Bristol died at the State Hospital in Howard on Wednesday evening about 10 15. He was in his 81st year and had been failing in health for several years. He came to Bristol around 1848 and sailed coastwise and worldwide on merchant ships. He served in the Civil War aboard gunboats Princeton and North Carolina. After the war he worked in junk and antique furniture businesses, retiring three years ago. He married Amanda Blount on June 18, 1850. Surviving are wife three sons Alfred B. Evans Charles B. Evans in Bristol and Cincinnati Frederick B. Evans and daughter Mrs Pardon Manchester. He was a member of St Alban's Lodge and Farragut Post. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 pm from his Wood at Rest residence with Rev George L Locke officiating. interment Juniper Hill Cemetery.

Work began last Monday on a new garage for Miss Marjorie Van Wickle at Blithewold home of Commodore and Mrs. William L. McKee Ferry Hill. The project includes two adjoining cottages linked to the garage forming a 96 foot frontage on Ferry Road. The garage will measure 70 by 25 feet and be built of yellow brick with cement-clad stone look on the cottages. Edward Abbott of Boston is the contractor. cement foundations are nearly set and completion is planned for April 1.

Charles Evans of this town died at the State Hospital on January 20 aged 80 years 5 months and 7 days. He was a resident of this town for many years. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the undertaker.
