GOP Must Take Stock at Bristol Women’s Club Meeting

Members and guests of the Bristol Women’s Republican club heard talks on improving the party and on a proposed revaluation of town properties for taxation. Speakers were Mrs. Henry S. Wheeler of Narragansett and Roger W. Pigeon, planning board chair. Mrs. Earl G. Sturdevant presided at the dinner. Piano by Earl Rounds accompanied songs.

March of Dimes Announces Committees For Fund Drive

Arthur M. McCaw chairs the March of Dimes committee to mail out donation slots for polio relief. Louise Brechin leads the production group, with Vasta L. Hearing Called on Building Plans for Filling Station at Hope and Wood

Frederick T. Goff, secretary of the Zoning Board, sets a public hearing for Friday at 8 p.m. in the town council chambers to consider building plans for a gas station at the Hope and Wood streets junction. The Bristol Sunshine Society met at 36 Washington Street to mark its first anniversary on Jan. 26. Officers elected include secretary F S Richardson and treasurer Ralph Kinder, with Massano as president and Balzido as vice president continuing in their roles. The group reported sending 1224 sterile bandages, 300 bed pads and 500 sponges to Hattie L Chaffee home and Rose Hawthorne hospital, with more materials needed.

Engineers Question Sewer Outfall Move Costs

Consulting engineers presented preliminary estimates on moving Bristol Harbor sewer outfall to Mt. Hope Bay or off Bristol Ferry with total costs near 200 000 290 000 and 270 000 respectively. With a 500 000 bond authorization the move appears unlikely and a Thursday meeting was scheduled to answer key questions on location contract timing and data from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
