Bristol School Department Wins Balance With State Aid Increase
Thanks to a larger State aid allotment the Bristol school department will close the current fiscal year January 31 with about 3600 in hand. Superintendent Elmer S. Mapes said the town has received 7252.03 from the State, about half to cover this year’s budget and the rest to carry over for spring term. The increased aid enabled restoring part of a wage cut for teachers and staff, with back pay paid from December checks. Town Treasurer William H. Angevine noted 2224 of the new aid was paid on the basis of one dollar per pupil for the 1935-36 year, aiding the back pay. Additional equalization funds soon followed.
