Olive Trees as Civilization Pillar and Regional Densities
The article argues the olive tree sustains civilizations, noting a 16 to 18 year lead time before production. It cites Grasse in southern France where one third of the countryside is olive planted and a town population of 60,000 in 1880, with two thirds lacking olives housing 10,000. It also mentions Tunisia’s olive region with 150,000 people in 600 square kilometers, nearby districts with five to six people per square kilometer.
