Democratic shift on States Rights in flood control standoff
The piece outlines a political shift as the Democratic Party and the New Deal move away from traditional States Rights, focusing on Vermont Governor Aiken’s dispute with the Federal Government over land for flood control. It notes the Flood Control Act of 1938 and the White House stance that states refusing flood control funding risk losing federal projects.

A Tribute To Dr Merriman Memory
A fragmentary tribute recalls Dr Merriman in a devotional tone. The lines reflect duty and faith, speaking of future heavenly reward after earthly labor and a soul at peace at the end of life’s journey.
Bristol Queen Shines As Movie Scene Opens
Oscar Rishe stars as the villain with Mary in a troubled acting bid. Barrymore Cohen falls apart while Goldstein reels from a nervous breakdown. Creditors surface in the cast as Reginald, Dimand and Ray McNamara appear. Mary, in her own way, earns praise as the "Movie Queen" and longs to return to Bristol as the curtain rises on film and stage.
