Defiance Fire Company Banquet Honor Meritorious Members

Defiance Engine and Hose Company held its annual banquet at the Bristol Neck station with praise from state and town officials for meritorious service. Judge Edward L. Leahy toasted the volunteers, noting their unselfish work, while brief remarks from Brig Gen L H Callan and Councilman Frank J Sylvia voiced support against budget cuts. A moment of silence honored Calvin Coolidge, and LeBaron Bradford was remembered as Bristol’s valued native son.

107th Annual Meeting of Congregational Womens Missionary Society

The 107th annual meeting will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Gatteras House. Officers will be elected for the year and annual reports read, with Miss Mabel J. T. Gardner, president, in charge.

Bristol Portuguese American Citizens' Club Receives Charter

The Bristol Portuguese American Citizens' Club was presented its charter by organizer Anthony H Alfred during Sunday exercises in Lincoln Hall. A moment of silence honored former President Calvin Coolidge. Rafael C Martins, the club president, formed sub committees for By Laws and entertainment with named members. Funeral of LeBar Bradford Honors Long Bank Service

Funeral services for LeBaron Bradford were held at Trinity Church after his death from pneumonia at age 84. Rev Nelson Kellogg officiated with Bishop R G Bennett. he had served 64 years at Providence Institution for Savings, where 65 employees and bank officers attended, paying tribute with roses and a large portrait to be hung in the bank lobby.

School Budget Fight Fears Harm to Bristol Education

The Bristol School Committee, in a unanimous vote, sent a letter to the Budget Commission arguing that the coming year needs roughly the same funding as the current year. They warn further cuts to teacher pay or essential programs would impair instruction and student health. The letter notes Bristol’s low per pupil costs, compares them with state peers, and outlines anticipated budget totals and allocations for 1933-34.

Doctors demand end to unnecessary house calls at Public Aid

Physicians on a public aid staff told a meeting that the practice of unwarranted night house calls must stop. They urged recipients to report to the office by 4 pm and leave travel decisions to the doctors discretion, noting office visits outnumber calls four to one.

International Air Reservation Service Opens Pan American Bookings

An International Air Reservation Service is established allowing seat reservations on Pan American Airways via Western Amon offices. Prospective travelers call the Telegraph Company and a messenger delivers or exchanges tickets to any port. In four years of South America service, the Airways System carried 165 thousand passengers and over 51 million miles. 78 percent of traffic was business, with tourism to Havana Nassau Jamaica the West Indies and Mexico increasing.

Rotary Foods Station Re opens In School

The Rotary Foods Station reopened yesterday at noon for a four month run led by John G Desbauners with women workers under Mrs John J Condon. The domestic science room at John Post Reynolds School houses the operation with Rotary Club funding for equipment. About 120 children were fed yesterday and numbers are expected to grow.

Ouellette Pleads Not Guilty To Embezzlement Charge

Omer Ouellette age 34 of Warren pleaded not guilty to embezzlement before Judge Lindemuth. Bail set at 10000. extradition and prior arrest in Memphis discussed. Ouellette employed as bookkeeper for H H Lawson Co. before disappearing November 19. Police and officials recount prior flight and return.

Guiteras School Pupils Stage Atlantic Message Play

Guiteras Memorial Junior High pupils reenact the January 7 1927 first Atlantic radio message in a school auditorium program. Boy and Girl Scouts, Harmonica Band and student dances supplement the show with sketches solos and a closing march.

Veterans entertained at Newport Soldiers' Home program

The Ruth Thomas Ladies Auxiliary United Spanish War Veterans of Newport hosted veterans at the local Soldiers' Home with songs recitations and piano selections. Each veteran received a gift. Vocal numbers were performed by Doris Braley Fred Johnson and Louise Green with Florra Whitmarsh at the piano. Visitors included Department President Mrs Marc Richter Auxiliary President Mrs Emma Bowley and State Board member George Smith.
