Town Council Considers Potter Gas Station At Junction

Providence summer resident Thomas Potter appeared before the Town Council to seek a permit for a gasoline filling station at the Hope and Thames Streets junction. He proposed removing the cottage on the site and placing the station at the south end, with a public hearing planned for next Tuesday evening.

Bristol County Festival Chorus First Concert at Guiteras School

Bristol County Festival Chorus presents its first concert at Guiteras Memorial School auditorium next Wednesday. Miss Aida A Connery will sing three groups of songs with John B Archer directing and Mrs. Benjamin M Mac Dougall on piano. The program includes Christmas songs, spirituals, Russian part songs, and tone settings from Handel and Rimsky-Karsakov, with incidental solos by Miss Connery.

Warren police chief pleads not guilty to bribe charge

Chief James A Cronin of Warren pleaded not guilty before Judge Hahn in Superior Court Providence to receiving a bribe. He posted $1000 bail via Dr John J Conway of Warren and appeared without counsel after a raid by State Police seized slot machines. Six men also pleaded not guilty to common gambling charges and Warren Councilman Edward Dallaire faced conspiracy and bribe counts with $2000 surety posted.

Harbor Obstruction Decision On Rock Blockage At Harbor

Harbor Master Samuel C Ward reports a letter from Col S A Cheney District Engineer noting the War Department review found the rock obstruction near the Franklin Street station of the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad not a navigation detriment since only small boats use the waters. The marking of the location is deemed the economical safeguard for small craft with appeals allowed to the US Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors by Jan 24. A government marker was placed on the west side of the old submerged stone pier after the Oct 24 public hearing led by May R F Fowler.

YMCA bowling tournament honors awarded last week

William A Bottomley won prizes for the highest single 143 and three string total 327 in the YMCA bowling tournament. Robert W Nelson took second in the three string total with 312 and Harry Phenes earned second in the single string average with 121.
