Bristol completes major 1936 highway and civic projects

The Bristol highway department finished its largest 1936 program including 4500 square yards of sidewalks and three miles of curbing aided by WPA and SAR funds. Notable projects cover Hope Street, High Street, Colt's Drive, Usher Place, and State and Bradford streets with blanket sidewalk plans planned for the town. Industrial employment rose with 518 more workers than a year earlier across eight local firms, and efforts continued on Burnside Memorial and a potential World War Memorial building. The town also addressed the sewage plant operations with an engineer trial plan, while fire and health hazards were reduced through legislative action.
