State Street Improvement Plan Up For Legislature
The January session will consider a proposal to repair and widen State street from Thames street to Metacom avenue. Sponsored by Town Council President Prescott B. Paull, the project aims to reconstruct the highway, widen the Wood street junction, and straighten the curve by the reservoir of the United States Rubber Company. Officials expect work to begin by early spring but face hurdles including moving the reservoir and acquiring private property at Wood street. Condemnation may be used if amicable settlements with St. Marys Church property and the Quirk estate fail.
