Bristol PWA workers list examined by town investigator

Investigator James T. Pierce reported completion of a survey listing Bristol residents employed on two PWA projects. He will present findings to the Town Council tomorrow night after challenging Governor Green’s earlier roster and citing nonresident labor concerns on the sewage plant and drainage system projects. Total workers listed number seventy two with Bristol, Barrington, Providence, and Warren represented.

Santa Claus made belated appearances at two Bristol parties on Friday. At St Michael's Parish House more than 200 children enjoyed a one act play Christinas in the Apartment with Kris Kringle distributing gifts. The Grand Army Hall Yuletide event hosted by the Babbitt Woman's Relief Corps featured Kris Kringle portrayed by Mrs Rachel Simmons and refreshments.

Officers for the next year will be chosen at the meeting before a turkey dinner served by members. Sheriff James F Meiggs will not seek re election as foreman. Fire Chief Robert R anderson will lead, with Elisha Hibberg Fire Commissioner and board members attending. Arrangements are led by Raymond Card as chairman with a committee including Henry Campbell William Manchester and others.

Negro Sextette to Sing at St Michael's Parish House

A sextette from the American Church Institute for Negroes will perform at St Michael's Parish House on the night of January as part of a nationwide tour. Led by Rev Cyril E Bentley, the group aims to showcase the institute's mission and train Christian leadership among the race.

Turkey Thieves Bound Over to Grand Jury in Bristol

Peter Maturi 22 of 60 Court street and Frank Andrade 22 of DeWolf avenue were bound over to the Bristol county grand jury after facing Fifth District Court on breaking and entering charges filed over nine prize turkeys stolen from Ferrycliffe Farm. Andrade waived examination and posted 1000 bail. Maturi remained in court on related charges as the pair also face shellfish theft charges next week.

Snowy New Year Celebrations Across New York and New England

Snow fell softly as 1920 rang in across New England and New York State. In Providence celebrations ran through hotels and downtown streets with loud cheers. The greatest welcome came at Times Square New York where crowds cheered in a noisy festive mood.

Bristol welcomed 1935 with widespread revelry at hotels inns and private homes. chimes rang in at Trinity Church and crowds toasted with beers at Belvedere Colonial Hotel and Bristol Casino while Italian and Portuguese residents carried greetings of Buon Capo d Anno and Feliz Ano Novo. Police reported a quiet night with no arrests as churches held New Year services and local parishes observed the Feast of the Circumcision.

Weather Halts CCC Search for Easterbrooks Missing Elder

Inclement weather stops the Civilian Conservation Corps search for 86 year old Crawford L Easterbrooks a former census and tax enumerator who disappeared from his Diman Place home nine days ago. About 150 CCC workers along with Bristol police and Sea Scouts aided by Acting Police Chief Ferrara have combed local woodlands and shores with little success. Authorities expect to scour the Chestnut Street to General School area when conditions improve and surmise he may have drowned.

Dr Mellone to Resume Practice of Dr Bernardo

Dr John A Mellone will take over the practice at 342 High Street as Dr Bernardo recovers from eye surgery. A Providence native, Mellone graduated from Georgetown University in 1933 with MD, interned at St Josephs and Charles VW Chapin Hospitals, served as a US Army Medical Corps lieutenant, and is on the St Josephs Hospital staff.

On the Feast of the Epiphany January 6 the St Michael's players present The Miracle Play in the parish house.
