Torn forecast notes rain and snow mix affecting the region with strong winds and flood concerns. Utility crews respond as a bulldozer and station crews handle power and road conditions amid a developing storm system. Local officials urge caution and monitor the weather through Wednesday.
In the wake of a major snow storm Narragansett Electric Co. used a helicopter to patrol lines and land crews where trucks could not go. Bob Burgess of Attleboro operated the craft as crews toiled long hours clearing roads. Police reported few emergencies, with 28 towed cars and several fallen wires and tree branches.
Last minute filings swell the candidate list for Bristol charter election. Town Clerk Anthony J. Dennis kept office open amid storms to accept papers as Clinton J. Pearson and Philemon F. Sturges 3rd filed within an hour of the deadline. GOP leaders held a Sunday meeting to promote a “Citizens for Charter Reform” slate, denied by Democrats as inviteless. The March 18 vote will decide whether to appoint a charter commission, fund drafting costs, and select nine members, with polls at Andrews School and the BTA Armory from 9 am to 9 pm. The ballot lists candidates including Rose Jamies Falugo and A. Lee Hayes among others.
