Town Council Elevates Ferrara to Police Chief in Bristol

Captain Anthony J. Ferrara was named Chief of the Bristol Police Department by the Town Council succeeding Richard J. Kavanaugh who was dismissed for misconduct after an East Providence drunk driving arrest. Ferrara promotes Patrolman William I. Baker Jr to captain and elevates Enuchd J. Demars and William T. Cashin to sergeants.

Four Bristol youths plead nolo on breaking and entering

Four Bristol youths aged 12 to 15 admitted nolo contendere in Fifth District Court to two counts of breaking and entering and larceny in a recent case involving two unoccupied summer homes on Ferry Hill. They were held for the March grand jury term. officers say additional charges against three linked youths will not be filed. A one week delay was granted in a shellfishing pollution case against Salvatore Abate. Three juveniles were placed on probation for a Yacht Club break.

Democrat Town Committee Secures Victory at Caucus

The Democrat Town Committee and supporters routed the Insurgents at a caucus in Artillery Armory. By 816 to 154 the Democrats solidified their control, leaving a single school committee race as the remaining contest. Raymond S. Brightman led the Insurgent plan and announced he would quit political action.

Firemen Die In Rumford Auto Crash

Pikar Soderlund a pioneer in the paid fire department was killed in an auto accident in Rumford. Fred Harris a hoseman sustaining critical injuries and Henry Lindblom a driver in the East Providence department was seriously hurt. All were off duty after leaving the Rumford firebarn with their pay checks.

Exposure Victim Dies in Providence Hospital

Dennis Amaral a 60 year old Bris tol ERA worker was found unconscious in a cold tenement at 283 Thames Street on Feb 17. He died Sunday evening at St Joseph's Hospital Providence from a cerebral hemorrhage. Born in St Michaels Azores he lived here 20 years and is survived by his wife and a daughter Mrs Louis Cabral of this town.
