Republican Town Committee networks deeper split after meeting

Disagreement persists between rival factions of the Republican Town Committee despite a bid to reconcile at a Wednesday meeting led by Dr. John R. Bernardo. A three member conciliatory panel was named and plans for the March election moved forward with committees for posters and campaigns.

Lenten Service to Feature Rev Kenneth L Cober as Speaker

The second Community Lenten service will be held Sunday at 730 PM in St Michael's Episcopal Church. Rev Kenneth L Cober, executive secretary of Christian education for the Rhode Island Baptist State Convention, will deliver the sermon. A pre service program by a double male quartet lasts fifteen minutes and they sing the offertory anthem with joint choirs from three Protestant churches. Ushers named are William A Tucker John Brechin Frank A Rounds and Roger Pigeon.

Maynard Shusman of Bristol rises from corporal to sergeant with U S Troop Carrier Forces based in France. An instrument mechanic and aircraft electrician, he has been overseas nearly a year and is son of Mr and Mrs Philip Shusman of 574 Wood Street. He is a 1939 Colt Memorial High School and 1943 Rhode Island College of Education graduate and serves in Service Wing under Col Franklin S Henley.

Hope Held That Lt Angevine Is Free From German Prison Camp

Town Treasurer and Mrs William H Angevine of Hope Street are hopeful that their son Lt William H Angevine Jr a prisoner of the Germans may have been freed by the advancing Russian Army. Russian communiques say territory containing St Angevine's camp has been liberated this week with no word yet from any source. St Angevine's wife Jean de Rocha Angevine lives on Chapin Rd Barrington.

Bosworth Cadet Passes Tests for Army Air Forces

Pvt Boswell S Bosworth Jr son of Mr and Mrs Bosworth of 1172 Hope Street has passed classification tests for an Army Air Forces aviation cadet. He trains six months at Keesler Field Mississippi after joining the Air Corps Enlisted Reserve in Sept 1943 and entering active service Jan 27 1944. He is a Bristol High School graduate with six months at Massachusetts State College under ART and Civil Air Patrol member.

Nastri Promoted to Corporal in Marianas Base

Gabriel L Nastri of Bristol Rhode Island promoted to corporal in a troop carrier squadron based in the Marianas. He has served over eight months in forward areas handling millions of pounds of high priority air freight and mail. Nastri, son of Mrs Tommasina Nastri, worked as a carpenter before joining the RAF in May 1942 and has been overseas since May 1943 as a carpenter and supply clerk for the Transport Air Group.

Colt Loses Last Game Of Season To Barrington

Colt Memorial five were defeated by the Barrington quintet 57 to 50 in Andrews Gym last evening. D McMann and J McMann led Barrington with 17 points each, Ferry added 16, while Colt’s DelPiano had 15 and Cavallaro with 12 and Velleca 11. Colts trailing 10 9, 21 23, 41 35 by periods.
