Bristol’s Mary C Bowen Celebrates Centennial Birthday

Mrs Mary C Bowen Bristol oldest resident marked her one hundredth birthday yesterday afternoon at Home for the Aged on Franklin street. The room bloomed with flowers and flags as relatives gathered to congratulate the celebrated centenarian who remains bed bound yet cheerful.

Birthday milestone marks 100 years of Mrs Bowen

Mrs Bowen celebrated her centennial with a formal cake cutting after 100 candles lit by three neighbors and Rev Dr McGilton. About 75 callers offered remembrances of fruit, flowers, and apparel as Miss Aida Connery sang and prayers were offered. The event highlighted Mrs Bowen born February 21 1818 in the town to Mason Wheeler Pierce and Lucinda Davis.

The Republican caucus in Bristol County Courthouse nominated town officers with large turnout and no opposition for Assessor of Taxes. Key picks include Moderator George A Arnold Town Clerk John M Coggeshall and a full slate for Town Council and School Committee. The Democratic caucus later kept the same slate with Joseph M Edmonds as Second Voting District clerk and John W Church switching to Republican.
