Assembly Exercises Honor War Heroes At Colt Memorial High

Friday morning assembly at Colt Memorial High School featured tributes to three heroes, two dead and one living, with talks by students Dorothy McGuigan Edward Levy and Edward LeClerc Jr. The event opened with a flag salute and “America” song, followed by current events talks directed by Herbert Burnham and a series of recitations poems and cartoons explained by peers, ending with a Star Spangled Banner performance.

Teachers Association Social at John Post Reynolds School

Bristol Teachers Association held a social after school in the auditorium of John Post Reynolds school. Victor Miller gave a chalk talk and a musical program was provided. Refreshments were served by a group of women and the arrangements were handled by Miss Eliza M Usher and Miss Cathleen Barton.

Exercises In Public Schools Pleasing Programs At Two Schools

Pupils at Guiteras Memorial School and John Post Reynolds School staged plays and recitations Friday afternoon. The Guiteras program included Washington related pieces and Cinderella with students such as Harriet Denniston Ruth Molasky and Anna Sousa performing alongside others. At John Post Reynolds School the section featured recitations and phrase speaking with teachers and students listed among participants.

The Bristol Salvation Army launches its annual Maintenance appeal led by a Citizens Committee of prominent locals including Mrs Charles A Johnson and William Bradford. Treasurer Charles Sherman of Industrial Trust Co. will handle funds. donations payable to Sherman. Pupils of the Bristol School of Music aided by Mrs Cora Shaw Anderson and James J Velleca presented a Friday recital at Colt Memorial high school to benefit the Bristol Community Band. The program included Andante from Quartet in D and various violin and banjo solos, a Danza ensemble, and performances by Raymond Thomas and others.

Pawtucket Boys Club defeated Bristol YoMA 27 to ? on their home court Saturday night. The Boys Club second team beat Bristol second 35 to 10 in the preliminary. Colt Memorial Light School beat Mt Charles five 34 to 18 at Woonsocket Friday night. National India Rubber Company five defeated Rhode Island Collegians on the local YoUM court Friday 34 to 24.

Fires Run Through Three Spots Near Poppasquash Port

Three small fires broke out yesterday afternoon near Poppasquash Port on Mrs Anna Roves property. Fire crews responded to brush and shed blazes burning several acres east of farm buildings. No structural damage occurred. At night a second chimney fire at Joseph Bullock’s home was put out and Sunday morning firefighters doused a cellar blaze at Raymond Brightman’s home with slight damage.
