Endowment Gift to Bristol Y M C A From Dr Herbert Howe

The late Dr Herbert M Howe of Bristol left five thousand dollars as an endowment for the Bristol Y M C A to fund maintenance. Executors Mrs Mary W F Howe and Frank P Howe made the bequest available promptly. Howe valued the association’s uplift work and his memory will inspire local boys through the reading room memorial to his son John Fell Howe, Yale student.

Adjourned School Committee meeting outlines budget and staff moves

An adjourned School Committee meeting at Colt Memorial High School discussed Wallace R. Brown joining Technical High School as a teacher and the amicable adjustment of his salary. The committee asked voters to approve 50000 for this year’s school expenses, citing higher grade teacher salaries and supply costs. They proposed 18000 for Reynold’s School completion and equipment, plus 500 for the Teachers’ Retirement Fund. A Washington’s Birthday holiday was granted. Easter vacation trips were limited. the Senior Class trip to Washington was refused. the Colt High Glee Club may tour during vacations under supervision of Principal William W. Lee Jr. and Mary C. Bolton.

Mary Bowen to Celebrate 99th Birthday Tomorrow

Mrs. Mary C Bowen will mark the 99th anniversary of her birth tomorrow at the Aged Women gathering while she recovers from a serious illness. Mrs Cornelia Munroe, who turned 100 on Dec 4, has received requests from the U S government for life statistics as a Home for Aged Women beneficiary.

East Greenwich Academy beat the Bristol YMCA 24 to 13 on Saturday night in East Greenwich. Thursday night the Rhode Island Institute for the Deaf will play the Bristol YMCA at the M C gymnasium.

Providence Food Fair At Infantry Hall

More than 3000 persons attended the 10th annual fair of the Providence Butchers Grocers and Marketmen Association at Infantry Hall last evening. The fair will continue until March 3 with switch exhibits and demonstrations of foods and home appliances from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Local grocers are offering partly paid tickets.
