Leroy L. Dean acting chairman of the Republican Town Committee says Louis Sylvia a Democratic candidate for fifth town councilman appears to violate the Hatch Act and Civil Service rules. Dean notes Sylvia's Civil Service status at the Melville Naval Supply Depot and cites regional and pamphlet guidance forbidding partisan activity by civil servants. Dean argues election candidacy while employed is unlawful and questions Sylvia’s proposed resignation as a defense.

Schools Close Thursday for Public Hearing on Teacher Raises
