Town Council schedules continuation of parking meter study as George Locke Howe, architect and novelist, appears in the film Decision Before Dawn today and tomorrow. Howe, former Army intelligence member, wrote Call It Treason and won a $25 000 prize for the work.
The Zoning Board of Review ordered a public hearing for a special exception to erect a six family ranch on Homestead Avenue. Ralph M DeLeo of DeLeo Construction Co seeks the permit claiming the lot’s layout creates a hardship and that approval is discretionary under state law.
Alfred R. Rego says the Feb 11 action defeats the Feb 25 election purpose. A citizens' committee met at Lincoln Hall and endorsed nine charter candidates. Rego and the three nonendorsed candidates criticize the move, calling it detrimental to the town's process.
Otis H. Shao a Shanghai native and Brown University doctoral candidate will speak to the Bristol Branch of the World Affairs Council of Rhode Island next Tuesday at 8 pm. He will assess how the international situation affects China today and is active in the American Political Science Association. Admission is free.

Roald Daler and crew of the Anglo Norse report the first albino sperm whale seen by the fleet, a 56 ton giant among 8 000 tons of sperm oil from 3 066 whales caught off Peru. The 10 000 ton vessel operates with 167 crew, using 110 foot killer boats to harpoon and render the oil.
Mr. Daler described the routine end of voyages when the ship returns. A caustic soda wash removes residue, then a five ton coat of red lead and black and white paint is applied. After ten months at sea a ship may smell strong enough to compel a return home.
