Sewer commission chairman Louis Medeiros announced at noon today that he will ask the commission to appoint a seven member committee to study the possibilities of a town sewer tax and a sinking fund for sewer construction. The commission will hold a special meeting Thursday night to study the recommendation. Medeiros said the aim is to gauge public opinion on sewer extension.
Representatives of four fire companies meet at Ever Ready station to form a permanent Firemen's Memorial and Welfare Committee. The group will sponsor the annual Memorial Sunday on the second Sunday of June and may oversee welfare activities for department members. Officers include a chairman and three vice chairs with rotating yearly terms by company seniority. Committees from Hydraulion, Dreadnaught, Defiance, and Ever Ready are named with their members.
A 1956 57 police budget of 58 16440 is submitted to the town council. No pay raise is requested, signed by Anthony J. Ferrara. Salaries total 46876 with operating costs 6400 and a special account of 4388 40 plus 500 for the pension fund. Operations include gas and upkeep 1110 telephone 400 office supplies 600 sickness 600 Blue Cross 900 jail 200 and cruiser cars 2000. Special account covers fire alarm 1500 town beach 1268 40 town celebrations 300 and vacation replacements 1320. The request is 726 over last April's 57438 appropriation.

Health Officer Samuel D. Clark urged the council to shut Prudence Cafe until a sanitary rear yard is maintained. Everett T. Francis, owner, was given 24 hours to clean up piles of tin cans garbage and refuse or face a $20 daily fine or license suspension per Chapter 601 of state law. Councilman Donovan moved for immediate action after a prior warning on February 2 and persistent unsanitary conditions.
Rego and Sons Contractors will be invited to the next Town Council meeting to explain why work on Hopeworth Avenue is unfinished. Hopeworth residents and officials pressed for clarity on the performance bond and completion, noting the school bus route is blocked and weather may be delaying progress.
Town council again delays action on granting coin operated Pla-Pool licenses after petitions were resubmitted with signatures issues and two original filers withdrawing. Several bars and clubs had petitions on file including Hotel Colonial and Mt Hope venues. some groups later withdrew.
District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Richard Moran of Pawtucket installed John J. Sylvia as Secretary of Bristol County Lodge No 1860 last evening. Moran praised outgoing Secretary J Clinton Cronin of Warren and lauded the lodge’s progress since its formation. Three Past Exalted Rulers Fred Leslie Edwin MacWilliams and Patrick MacGowan were honored during the meeting. Joseph Brelsford announced the winners of the Youth Leadership contest with Robert Leahy and Barbara Gee as the boys and girls winners.
