Bristol Boy Scout troops staged a 12th year Christmas toy drive for 300 needy children. Ezra Steen impersonated Santa Claus with Deputy Commissioner George R. Fish and Scouts aiding in the toy loading and distribution across town.
Surprised by an early morning break in on Christmas day Mr and Mrs William H Angevine of 18 Hope Street found thieves had entered through a broken cellar window. The culprits took several presents a one pound box of chocolates and a cigarette case leaving silverware untouched. Police patrolmen McMahon and Demers searched the area but found no suspects and no clues.
Guests from Warren Providence and this town totaling about 70 attended the 60th wedding anniversary at 675 Cranston Street home of Mr and Mrs Joseph T Lindsey. They married by the late Rev James P Lane in their native town and have lived in Providence since.
On Christmas Day Bristol enjoyed fair weather followed by a snow storm early Sunday morning. Midnight services were held at Trinity St Marys St Elizabeths and the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel with organ recitals choir performances and festive masses. Community dinners and carols filled churches and homes as mail volume hit records and holiday deliveries exceeded last year.
Burnside Lodge No 34 Knights of Pythias meets in Castle Hall at 8 tonight for the annual meeting and officer elections. The rank staff will confer the rank of Knight on candidates and the collation committee will serve refreshments. Plans for next month's officer installation and the 34th anniversary celebration on January 25 will be discussed.
The season's second large snow storm hit about 4 a.m. Sunday and lasted most of the day. Ground lay under six inches of snow while a highway department plow began at 9 a.m. and worked all day to clear the streets.
