Rev Thomas J Gillan announced at Christmas services that plans for a new St Marys Church will proceed. Located at Wood and State facing the Common, the 60 by 150 foot English Gothic structure features a 105 foot tower, ambulatory side aisles, a groined interior, large windows, and pearl gray brick with terra cotta trim. Completion aims for basement services next Christmas. Murphy Hindle Wright (Providence) designed it and P E Harding (Providence) is contractor.

Obituary: Mr and Mrs John Stowe Die in Newport Fire
Mr and Mrs John Stowe former residents of this town perished in a tenement fire in Newport Christmas morning. He burned to death, she suffocated by smoke. They lived on the second floor. cause unclear though lamp overturn or couch ignition suspected. Funeral held at North Cemetery mortuary chapel with Rev George L Locke officiating. The Stowes were well known among Bristol's German residents and lived here about 22 years ago. Mr Stowe ran a fish market on Thames Street near State Street.
