Major Joan A O Keefe Elected Lieutenant Colonel in Rhode Island Militia
Major Joan A O Keefe inspector of life practice brigade staff was unanimously elected lieutenant colonel of the Second Regiment to succeed Col Luke H Callan in Providence Phenix building regimental head quarters Friday evening. O Keefe has served since 1887 in various militia posts including assistant surgeon and surgeon of the Second Regiment and later provost marshal and inspector of rifle practice. He is a Worcester native and a practicing physician in 19 societies and clubs. Cpl Callan joins retirement after January joining the brigade in 1895.

Vagrant and disorderly conduct cases handled in district court
A special Sunday session at the jail disposed of three cases. Edward Tobin and Sarah Brown, arrested Saturday for vagrancy and disorderly conduct, pleaded not guilty but were found guilty and sentenced to six months at the house of correction. Manuel Brom, arrested Christmas day for revelling, pleaded guilty and fined eight dollars plus costs nine dollars total. A later session adjourned after continuing a civil case. Gardner Easterbrooks, arrested at Warren for vagrancy, pleaded guilty and received six months at the house of correction.
