Community Christmas Tree Lights Spark Yuletide Spirit

The Community Christmas Tree on the common lit after 6 30 PM with red green and white lights. Local choirs school children and an orchestra led by Fred M Straight performed carols. The Mothers Club supervised the event with Mrs A M Merriman as chair. Candles lit homes and police station windows added to the festive scene.

Christmas Tree at D Wolf Inn Delights Local Children

At the National India Rubber Company factory and D Wolf Inn a Christmas party for 56 children featured a decorated tree with gifts. Santa, played by H W Remington, and Wendell R. Davis handed out presents as Miss Bertha Chappell and Miss Ruth Savory sang, with Alton Barrett on piano. Mary Hyde received a traveling bag. Ruth Graham and Julia Drury got confections. The event was organized by Mrs Hannah Fales, Miss Alice Hume, and Miss Lottis Findlay.

Busy At Herreshoffs Plans For New Fast Yachts

Herreshoff Manufacturing Co will be busy through spring as it starts work on several fast yachts and other craft. A contract was closed for a very fast 110 foot steam yacht for C H Dupont of Delaware. Owned by R A Rainey of New York, the boat will be built along lines similar to the Conejo and will feature powerful engines and elaborate construction.

Swansea Man Murdered Near Cole's River

Frank A. Puffer of Swansea, found dead Friday afternoon in his small riverbank shack. Neighbor Charles H Snow discovered the body in the kitchen beside an axe bloodied on blade and handle. Medical Examiner Gun ning said autopsy omitted direct killing role. Puffer likely lost consciousness after the assault and bled to death. A skull fragment 24 by 14 inches noted. no baron injury. Reports say heavy drinking and possible delirium tremens. authorities have few clues.

Gale Disturbs Town as Elm Falls and Roofs Blow

A powerful northwest gale follows Friday rain, uprooting a large elm on Hope Street near Union Street and toppling electric wires. A lumber shed roof at the National India Rubber Company plant is blown off, an electric light wire is broken, and fences in several areas are blown down.

Found Dead in a Lumber Wagon in Oliver Street Yard

Frederick Howard Murphy aged 37 or 38 was found dead in a one horse lumber wagon in the yard of his uncle Charles Paull on Oliver street. Death attributed to exposure with no signs of violence. He had left home Saturday morning to clam and did not return. Funeral set for 2 PM tomorrow from 50 Oliver street. burial at North Cemetery. Survived by wife and two sons.

Bache Private School Christmas Tree Exercises Delight

Forty pupils and about twenty guests attended at Bache Private School as Walls Howe Jr. impersonated Santa Claus and distributed presents. Miss Hannah Kinder led primary exercises with songs, dialogues, and recitations featuring students such as Hazel Nettleton James Benard and Myrtle Conley.
