A short Christmas verse from Sallie P Haven calls for a glistening hemlock tree to symbolize Yuletide cheer and peace in Bristol through the year, acknowledging past storms and wishing joyous bells on Christmas night.
Jerry Hopkins a 98 year old Civil War veteran at the Rhode Island Soldiers Home received a special gift from members of the State Department Women’s Relief Corps during a recent visit. He was called the last of the boys in blue at the home and was presented a package of wearing apparel and commodities by Mrs Etty Baker. Candy gifts were shared with other veterans, and an entertainment program followed with greetings from Commandant Lawrence Mooney. Brief remarks were given by Mrs Frances Norman and Henry Gree. Participants included Miss Dorothy B Luther James Duckworth Mrs Hattie Baker Miss Ivis Baker Jimmy Baker Phylls Tapwell and a Hawaiian trio of Marian Leidell Emma Fckloss Colleen McLynch.
On December 25 Sunday at 7 pm First Baptist Church presents Why The Chimes Rang. On January 5 Thursday Socata Annual Concert of St Mary's Choral Society at Guiteras School Auditorium.
