Christmas spirit prompts Coast Guard depot events this weekend with two gatherings. A dinner dance for the Spa crew and guests is set for Friday at the Elk's Club. Sunday 2 to 4 pm sees a party on board the Spa for children of crew members with Santa, a movie, and refreshments. Decorations include a star atop the mast and two trees. A Christmas Day dinner is planned and a special movie is arranged.

Weaver returns to Amarillo Texas after a 15 day leave with parents Lawrence F Weaver and spouse and after completing basic training at Lackland AFB San Antonio He also attended the 345th Technical Training Wing Automotive School at Cheyenne Wyoming and will attend Jet Mechanic School in Amarillo
A Christmas party for children will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Nike control site atop Mount Hope at 2 o'clock. Battery C, 739th AAA Battalion personnel planned the event with Santa Claus arriving by helicopter after 2. The unit has been busy with Christmas shopping in local stores, focusing on dolls blocks and games for youngsters.
Lawson-Raiola chapter No. 25 earned national recognition for surpassing last year’s membership. As of December 1, the chapter totaled 112 members under Commander Francis P. Cuomo. National Commander Joseph F. Burke praised the chapter in Cincinnati, urging continued recruitment to support rehabilitation for disabled veterans. Eighty five members and guests of the Pyramids of Charity Women’s Club attended the annual Christmas party Sunday at the Midway. President Nancy Vitello welcomed guests as a candlelight reading of St. Luke’s Christmas story by Mrs. Vasta L. Ruggiero preceded a dinner. Santa Claus, in the person of Mrs. Mary Sousa, distributed gifts to attendees.

The annual Colt Alumni basketball skirmish on Friday December 28 at Andrews Gym raises funds for Bristol Senior High School scholarships. The 7:30 opener features the 1943 and earlier graduates in an old timers game, while the nightcap has Colt varsity against Alumni from the past three years. Players from 1943 and earlier who haven't been contacted should reach Vin Grabert or Artie Pansa. Refreshments follow.
Cub Pack Six held a Friday gathering awarding Michael Almeida two silver on bear badge and Andrew Vorro a lion badge. Den leaders Arthur Tattrie and Harold Harvey led opening and closing ceremonies. each den presented a program including Living Pageants of Nativity Scene Kings reading Night Before Christmas and decorating the tree. Parents and cubs sang carols, Santa’s representative distributed gifts, and parents donated candy and items for the needy.
