Rains Swell Pumping Load

Sanitary sewer pumps handled a surge as heavy rain persisted Friday to Sunday. Plant superintendent Henry W Pacheco said 12,060,000 gallons were pumped during the event, far above the two million gallon daily average. Weekend days yielded respectively 1,580,000, 5,210,000, and 5,270,000 gallons, with 4,300,000 gallons pumped yesterday. Extra flow came from roof water and infiltration in old lines and manholes, plus salt water from high tides.
