State and town officials and local civic leaders will join the Bristol Lions Club in honoring Congressman-elect Aime J. Forand at a testimonial dinner tonight in the Belvedere Hotel. Roland J. Martelly provided the report.
Court presiding Justice Jeremiah E. O Con nell and Leo H. Beaulac of Pawtucket Lions Club are slated as speakers at a large banquet. Bertram W. Wall will serve as toastmaster. Warwick Mayor John A. O'Brien heads invited officials including Raymond A. Peck Edward Shea and Charles Riley of the State Emergency Public Works Commission. Bristol officials Francis B. Condon Prescott B. Paull and John Romano attend with Postmaster Coggeshall Town Clerk Church Treasurer Angevine and others. Forand, Rhode Island Soldiers' Home commandant, is praised as a longtime friend and Rhode Island native resident since childhood.

The final score was Leominster 59.5 to West Warwick 58.9 in the deciding third contest. A street parade preceded the event with state leaders and supporters.
The American Legion Christmas Basket Fund needs donations to ensure enough baskets and contents for the needy at Christmas. Prompt contributions allow the committee to plan and avoid higher last minute prices. Send funds to B W Wall at 539 Hope Street or his office. Previously acknowledged gifts total 28.00 from various supporters.
Bristol Council No 379 Knights of Columbus will host a reception for new members at tomorrow night’s meeting on State Street. Past State Deputy Matthew Dunn of Providence and other state officers will speak on boys work. Grand Knight William T Dwyer will introduce them. An entertainment is planned by the program committee led by Joseph W Flynn. Arthur Savard of Providence will be guest soloist.
All three Bristol Catholic churches held morning services for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Tonight’s services include rosary, sermon, and benediction at 7:30. Rev. Joseph Sorzana led a tridium yesterday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. St. Mary’s parochial school sessions were halted today.
Bristol Sewer Commission votes to run the sewage plant during a six to eight month trial with Prof H K Barrows of Boston as supervising engineer. Barrows and staff will be paid about 3500 dollars, drawn from town meeting appropriations. Back bills totaling 3226.91 were approved and a year end balance of 1274.69 reported to cover operations through January 31.
The Girls Friendly Society at St Michael's church fulfills charitable pledges this Christmas. The candidates prepare rubber toys and ship a tote to a Providence child care center. They also gather stockings for State Homes and clothe a Virginia girl student. A December 21 carol event supports funds.
Kearney Post No 6 American Legion voted fifteen dollars in Friday night meetings at Odd Fellows hall High street. Ten dollars funded the Christmas Basket Fund and five supported a Bristol District Nursing Association health bond. Samuel Je si Smith reported eighty two paid-up members of a 135 quota. Members plan to attend the Second District meeting in Tiverton in December. Joseph Marshall and Andrew Arone were named pallbearers with Arone chairing the social committee. The next regular meeting is January 8 after an January 1 originally scheduled session.
The Olympian Club of the YMCA set plans for a Christmas social at the Y next Tuesday night with Manuel Sousa as committee chair. Edward Caladrone Michael Ascoli Anthony Del Piano John Travers Get Ger Sf Peilthbirpy and Fasquarelli also named E x-official. The club voted to sponsor a basketball team for the coming campaign with John Foxy Marshall as athletics chair and a committee including Tony Gomes Michael Cappucci Ralph Gallo and Michael Ascoli.
Ernest G Brown longtime manager at United States Rubber Bristol plant is named chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for St Michael's parish by Canon Anthony R Parshley. Other appointees include H Marshall Williams vice chairman and town treasurer William H Ange vine among many community leaders.
Hope Circle No. 70 Daughters of Isabella voted to sponsor a Christmas party for children of members on Sunday afternoon December 20 and to hold a Yuletide party on December 21. The group approved $5 donations to the Rhode Island Santa Claus Fund and the Bristol District Nursing Association. A joint supper with Bristol Council K of C for the two groups was nearly set for next Monday. Mrs. Margaret M. Conley was chosen a delegate to the State Convention with Miss Frances Horton as alternate.
