St Michael parishioners hold annual meeting

St Michael's Parish held its annual meeting on Tuesday night to review finances for the coming year. Auxiliary Bishop Granville G Bennett urged immediate fundraising for the missionary program as Junior Warden J Winthrop De Wolf outlined parish needs. The canvass goal was set at 7400 while the budget reached about 13500 with endowment funds covering the gap. Ernest G Brown chairs the drive. Ivy Guild Council members assisted by refreshments.

Car Recovered After Stolen Vehicle Incident at Mt Hope Bridge

Aniset A Burgess of 17 Caleb Earl Street Newport reported a car stolen from Long Wharf. Bristol police found the auto abandoned near the Mt Hope Bridge about 10 45 P M with lights on and no driver. Toll operator Charles McKenna reported a motorist evaded the toll. Burgess learned of the theft from police.

Bristol School Board eyed to preserve federal loan for new school

At Monday night’s meeting the Bristol School Committee will likely act to protect the Federal PWA grant for the Andrews Memorial School. Federal officials warned that the allotment could be withdrawn if action is not taken soon. The town has already received $100,000 from the Andrews estate with a further $40,000 expected, while court litigation over the estate delayed plans. Under earlier terms the town would receive about 53,000 as a PWA grant, later revised to 30 percent of construction costs from the Federal Government.

Altar Society Elects Mrs Ranzarella President

Mrs. Frank Ranzarella was elected president of the Altar Society at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church during the Tuesday evening parish hall meeting on Congregational street. She succeeds Mrs. John Bernardo and plans were made for the annual Christmas party led by committee head Mrs. Anthony Bruno. Other officers named include Vice President Mrs. Lillian Arrone Secretary Mrs. Anthony Breing and Treasurer Mrs. Troiano.
