Traffic hazard warnings on dangerous passing practices
Board observations show widespread frequent passing in heavy traffic. One in five drivers cuts out of line to pass, often forcing others off line or onto opposite lanes, creating accident risk. Authorities warn such behavior will not be tolerated and may cost driving permits.
Mount Hope Bridge Construction Moves Forward in Portsmouth
The Mount Hope Bridge Company began preliminary work for a 4 million dollar bridge between its town and Portsmouth. McClintock Marshall of Pittsburg won the contract for the substructure. The old steamboat wharf on the Portsmouth side is being repaired to unload materials. A house on company land is moved for the approach. A court order allows condemning land at Portsmouth with a 25000 dollar bond. The Foundation Company of New York will handle substructure work. Steel work won’t start until July or August, and 300 to 400 Rhode Island workers may be employed, not including steelworkers.
