The Bristol Business Civic Association asks the Town Council to zone streets for winter sledding and flood and light a rink for skating. It urges a prompt Recreation Committee meeting and asks stores to stay open Dec 15 through Christmas Eve.
At a Weekly Wednesday conference led by Rear Admiral Gilbert C Hoover the Town Council president and Francis P McGovern clerk of the tax assessors discussed hiring a full time clerical assistant for the assessors department. The rise in work comes from many requests for tax exemptions by World War II veterans who did not file before June 15. The board must list these claims for abatement recommendations to the Town Council President.

The State Alcohol Control Board has banned Sunday dancing in licensed places prompting the Town Council to seek guidance. Police Chief Ferrara noted the rule and the solicitor said private or public dancing at licensed sites is prohibited unless ABC relaxes the ruling. The council plans to request a formal opinion on possible changes while enforcing the ban, with a report due after discussions with state officials.
Officers of Lawson-Raiola Post Disabled American Veterans were installed Sunday in Independent Hall by Commander Charles Zombardi. Manuel Prenda is Commander and other officers include William Shayer as Senior Vice Commander and William Head as Junior Vice Commander. The ceremony drew 25 members with Chester W. Williams as principal speaker and guests Myra Flynn Alice Gorman and James Raiola among those present.
The Bristol Women's Club presents Ada Holding Miller on Monday December 8 at 8 p m in Colt High School auditorium. The nationally known artist will demonstrate on a glass harmonica, a rare Bohemian instrument played by touch. Miller, vice president of the National Federation for Music Clubs, offers a diverse repertoire including 16th century airs folk songs and Christmas carols.
Bristol's March of Dimes committee met at the YMCA Haf enreffer Room to plan the campaign starting January 15. Councilman Frank J. Murphy outlined a tentative schedule and subcommittees including the annual ball committee. John Ogg noted three long serving polio commit- tee members will receive service pins at ceremonies in Providence.

Bristol Zoning Board of Review upheld Building Inspector Otis M. Bailey's grant of a Permitted Use for Wellington Pease to build a cement block plant on Roma Street. Objectors argued for a Special Permit Use with a public hearing citing dust noise and vibration concerns. The board noted the plant would use sound absorbing walls and a bent tamping machine, with witnesses from Royal Stirling supporting cleanliness and safety.
Hope Circle No 70 Daughters of Isabella outlines a Christmas Party for members on Monday Dec 15 at its regular monthly meeting. Committee co chairs are Mrs Eliza White and Mrs Gladys Serbst with a slate of members named.
