Tree Warden Initiates Over 100 New Replacements Townwide
Joseph Kinder, tree warden, starts the first major town tree replacement since 1940. About 110 to 115 alms and maples are planted along with 25 elms on the town common and 10 maples in the town park. The project will replace trees lost in the 1944 hurricane or since then, with 700 to 800 more needed in new sections. Councilman Edward H. Holmes guides placement and benches may be added. Funds come from the town appropriation. 1940 work was funded by public subscriptions. Trees 12 to 15 feet tall may offer shade by next summer.
