Col L H Callan Wins Wood and Franklin Streets Contract
At a special town council meeting Col L H Callan was awarded the contract to complete permanent highway work on Wood Street from Union to Ferry Road and Franklin Street from High to Thames. The $35,373 bid was the sole submission, with $70,000 of the $250,000 bond appropriation to be sold by the Sinking Fund Commission. A Thames Street track coordination with NYNH&H officials will precede further work and engineers will inspect public service dig ups to ensure proper road restoration.

A five member committee reviewed site options and building plans for the Elizabeth Wardwell Guiteras Memorial School. They considered the Perry homestead site, High Street site, and Sayer property, aiming for a junior high with eight rooms and industrial facilities. Subsoil borings on the Perry site showed strong stability and $310,000 is available from Dr. Ramon Guiteras's bequest.
